Overview 概要

• In recent years, the Japanese government has positioned startup support as a pillar of its growth strategy. However, gender-based inequality of opportunity in the startup ecosystem remains a significant challenge. In particular, there have been few explicit studies on the reality of sexual harassment. The results of a survey of 197 entrepreneurs and stakeholders reveal structural factors of sexual harassment in the startup ecosystem and suggest the need for further research.
• 近年、日本政府はスタートアップ支援を成長戦略の柱として掲げていますが、スタートアップ・エコシステムにおける性別による機会の不平等は依然として大きな課題となっています。特に、セクシュアル・ハラスメントの実態に関する明示的な調査はほとんどありませんでした。197名の起業家および関係者を対象とした調査結果は、スタートアップ・エコシステムにおけるセクシュアル・ハラスメントの構造的要因を提示し、今後のさらなる調査研究の必要性を示唆しています。

• 52.4% of female entrepreneurs experienced harassment in the past year
• 女性起業家の**52.4%**が過去1年間でハラスメントを経験
  
• Main perpetrators are investors and venture capitalists (44.4%), customers/clients (33.3%), mentors/advisors (24.7%)
• 主な加害者は、投資家やベンチャーキャピタリスト（43.2%）、顧客/クライアント（33.3%）、メンター/アドバイザー（24.7%）

• Content varies widely, including inappropriate remarks (56.8%), physical contact (30.9%), unwanted relationship demands (27.2%), etc. 
• 内容は多岐にわたり、不適切な発言（56.8%）や身体的接触（30.9%）、**望まない関係の要求（27.2%）**など

• Effects of victimization include psychological distress (63.0%), loss of confidence as an entrepreneur/professional (30.9%), economic loss (including temporary business suspension or withdrawal: 14.8%), etc. 
• 被害の影響は精神的苦痛（63.0%）、起業家/専門家としての自信低下（30.9%）、**経済的損失（事業の一時停止や撤退を含む:14.8%）**など

• Only 14.8% reported all incidents of victimization, with many cases remaining hidden due to reasons such as "reporting won't improve the situation" and "fear of retaliation"
• 被害をすべて報告した人は14.8%、「相談・報告しても状況は改善されない」「報復が怖い」などの理由から、多くの被害が潜在化

• This research analyzes important challenges and problem mechanisms faced by Japan's startup ecosystem and provides specific recommendations for policymakers and industry stakeholders. These insights are expected to contribute to building a fairer and more inclusive entrepreneurial environment.

Survey Overview 調査概要

• Survey method: Online survey (Google Forms)
• Survey period: June 1, 2024 (Sat) - June 15, 2024 (Sat)
• Response method: Multiple choice, free description
• Valid responses: 197 (105 female entrepreneurs, 20 male entrepreneurs, 71 other stakeholders such as mentors and investors)
• Survey content: Basic attributes such as gender and age, sexual harassment experiences in the past year, perpetrator attributes, impacts, reporting behavior, factors contributing to sexual harassment
• 調査方法：オンライン・サーベイ（Google Forms）
• 調査期間：2024年6月1日(土) ～ 6月15日(土)
• 回答方法：選択式、自由記述式
• 有効回答：197名（女性起業家105名、男性起業家20名、その他メンターや投資家など関係者71名）
• 調査内容：性別・年代などの基本属性、過去1年間のセクハラ被害経験、加害者属性、影響、報告行動、セクハラ発生の要因

Researcher 研究者

• Takanori Kashino is the founder of Eirene Management School and serves as the Director of its Social Impact Center. His research focuses on Startup Ecosystems and Entrepreneurship Education. Kashino holds an MPhil in Innovation, Strategy and Organisaation from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He previously attended Keio University's Faculty of Policy Management but left before graduation.
• 柏野尊徳。アイリーニ・マネジメント・スクールの創設者、同校ソーシャル・インパクト・センターのディレクター。研究領域は、スタートアップ・エコシステムと起業家教育。ケンブリッジ大学でイノベーション・戦略・組織学の修士号（MPhil）、シカゴ大学で公共政策の修士号（MA）取得。慶應義塾大学総合政策学部退学。
