Report for Sustainable Agriculture Project from Narus, South Sudan 005

1- TITLE:

Agriculture initiative in South Sudan.

2- BRIEF INTRODUCTION:

Agriculture initiative in South Sudan working project started in last year 2020 by the help of Eirene Organisation in Japan Tokyo. The project started with aim of improving the life of poor children in our community.

3- ACTIVITIES DONE:

  • Maintaining the crops from planting to harvest time is done successfully.
  • Mobilising some tools for Harvesting ( Tapuline and Sack ) done in good way.
  • Harvesting of crops done.
  • Motivating workers done in two ways, paying them in kind  or cash.
  • Transporting the produce to Narus Brothers community done.
  • Sorghum is flowering very well.

 4- PLANS ACTIVITIES:

  • Plan for proper drying of the produce for storage in the store.
  • May be if fund can allow,we can plan for putting maize for second season.
  • Continuation of planting vegetables.

5- ACHIEVEMENT:

  • 31,795 South Sudanese Pound generated from selling vegetable from month of April to August.
  • Harvesting of crops is done successfully.

6- CHALLENGES:

  • Means of Transport.
  • Inadequate numbers of tools: more so during Harvesting season.
  • Motivation funds: made us to pay the workers with what we harvested.
  • Rampant stealing especially when crops about to be harvested.
  • Unreliable rainfall this year 2021.
  • Insecurity ( gun fighting between Toposa tribe and Turkana tribe ).

7- WAY FORWARD:

  • May be if fund can allow, we can get two wheels bike as our means of Transport.
  • May be if fund can allow, we can motivate our workers with cash rather than in kind.
  • Will be good if we can provide security personnel to guard the farm especially during harvest.
  • We can plan to add more tools next season.

8- CONCLUSION:
