PROFILE

Thomas Both is a designer and design educator with a passion for helping people understand the practice of human-centered design, and nurture their ability to innovate how they learn, think, and solve problems. He is Director of the Designing for Social Systems program at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) at Stanford University. In this program, he teaches social sector professionals how to apply design thinking to complex social challenges and develop a more human and strategic practice. For over a decade, Thomas Both has been teaching, coaching, and mentoring practitioners across many sectors. Working with both students and professionals, Thomas has designed and taught immersive learning experiences including the d.school Design Thinking Bootcamp Executive workshop and various iterations of the d.school flagship student course, Design Thinking Studio. He’s developed design methodologies and co-created some of the most-used d.school resources such as the Bootcamp Bootleg. As a consultant, Thomas has led design teams, created products, and taught trainings for various clients including businesses (Google, Genentech, Capital One, Sparkasse, Lever, Uncommongoods), non-profits (Providence Health, Playworks, First 5 California), and educational organizations (Hasso Plattner Institute [Germany], Tokyo Institute of Technology, Waseda University, Stanford Center for Professional Development).
